    Luxembourg Castle — The reconstructed Fort Thüngen, formerly a key part of Luxembourg City's fortifications, now on the site of the Mudam, Luxembourg's museum of modern art.
    Ville de Luxembourg, German: Luxemburg Stadt), is a commune with city
   status, and the capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It is
   located at the confluence of the Alzette and Pétrusse Rivers in
   southern Luxembourg.
    Founded in 963, Luxembourg became a grand duchy in 1815 and an
   independent state under the Netherlands. It lost more than half of its
   territory to Belgium in 1839 but gained a larger measure of autonomy.
   Full independence was attained in 1867.
    1957, Luxembourg became one of the six founding countries of the
   European Economic Community (later the European Union), and in 1999 it
   joined the euro currency area.

   Europe after Gibraltar, the castle was garrisoned by the Prussians as
   a bulwark of the German Confederation (1815 – 66); it was dismantled
   by treaty in 1867.
